In honor of Carol Gómez, a longtime member of Delaware Valley Mensa, the Carol Gómez Memorial Scholarship Fund was initiated in 1987. It is a fund administered through the auspices of the annual Mensa Foundation Scholarship Competition. Applicants write essays of 550 words or less that describes their educational and/or career goals. The Carol Gómez Memorial Scholarship Fund is open to any Delaware Valley resident and the annual award amount is $500.
Carol Gómez loved foreign languages and cultures. She knew four foreign languages, taught Spanish and French in Philadelphia high schools for about 13 years, and was a strong believer in cultural enrichment. This award follows the same criteria as the essay competition with the addition that the author’s goals must have something to do with cultural enrichment and/or the study of foreign languages.
